Empowering Change: Lessons from 45 Climate Resilience Projects

Introduction:
As climate change increasingly threatens lives and livelihoods across Bangladesh, HV Associates Limited has been at the forefront of evaluating and strengthening climate adaptation projects. From 2022 to 2023, our team conducted a comprehensive impact evaluation of 45 projects funded by the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust (BCCT).

What We Did:
Our experts assessed initiatives ranging from flood resilience infrastructure to community-based adaptation models. Using both qualitative and quantitative tools—including household surveys, GIS mapping, and stakeholder interviews—we uncovered key insights into what’s working and what needs rethinking.

Key Findings:

  • Projects that integrated local knowledge and community participation demonstrated stronger sustainability.
  • Gender-sensitive approaches significantly improved project reach and inclusivity.
  • Long-term impact was greatest when capacity-building and technical training were included.
  • Many projects faced challenges with climate data integration, monitoring, and follow-up funding.

Recommendations:

  • Expand integrated climate information systems for local decision-making.
  • Strengthen M&E frameworks for real-time learning.
  • Promote decentralized funding to scale community-led adaptation.

Conclusion:
Our evaluation not only measured outcomes but also contributed to reshaping national adaptation strategies. At HV, we remain committed to turning data into action for a more climate-resilient future.
